This is an experimental project to display objects as they are viewed on the Cooper Hewitt collections website in real-time, emphasizing the medium used in that object. If your web browser supports the necessary extensions it will also read the medium aloud.
It might take a few seconds to start displaying objects but if you get bored of waiting you can always kick-start things by visiting a random object on the collections website.
This web browser does not have the ability to read text aloud. That's totally fine and you can still use this application without it. If you'd like to try it with a spoken voice though we suggest trying it with a recent version of Safari or Chrome.
shift-Fwill put The Medium is the Message into fullscreen mode.
shift-Swill toggle whether or not media are read out loud.
shift-?will display this dialog.
